Luau in Orlando: The Polynesian Fire Luau (and What Happened to Disney's)

If you're looking for a luau in Orlando, the one most people remember is gone. Disney's Spirit of Aloha at the Polynesian Village Resort closed in 2020 and Disney confirmed in 2022 it won't return; the building has since been torn down.

The luau that's running now is the Polynesian Fire Luau and Dinner Show in Kissimmee. Here's what it's like.

• Where: 4740 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway (US 192), Kissimmee. The show moved, so use this address, not an old one.
• When: check-in is 5:30 to 6:00 PM, and the night runs about two hours.

What happens at the show

Dinner is a buffet with a live band playing, then the dancers take the stage: Hawaiian hula, fast Tahitian drumming dances and Tongan and Samoan dances. The finale is the Samoan fire knife dance, and it's the part everyone films.

It's a family show, and it works for couples and groups too.

Is it worth it?

Yes, if you want a dinner show that's not knights or pirates, or you miss the old Disney luau. It's also close to the Disney area hotels on US 192, so it's an easy night after a park day.

Skip it if you want an outdoor beach-style luau. This one is a dinner theater.

• Book a few days ahead on weekends and holidays.
• Arrive in the check-in window. Dinner and the show run on a set schedule.
